The Slum Program, Traditional Home and The Family Home Ministries

Slum outreach: This done 3 to 5 times a week, teaching children God’s word, treating wounds, serving hot meals, counseling, literacy and numeracy, etc. It helps us to keep in touch with children who are still living on the streets, helping us to prepare those who may be ready to live the streets and come to our transitional home.

Transitional home: Where fresh children from the slums are received and rehabilitation begins. We believe that no child is a mistake and that God ordained families. So from the transitional home, we do all the social work needed including family tracing and where it is in the best interest of the child, we reunit them with their families. Where it is not possible, we keep the child until he is the man God intends him to be.

Family Home (Forever Home) This is for those children whose parents cannot be located or have been located but its not in the best interest of the child. This is where they live as a family. NOTE: We treat each child as “this” child not one size fits all so this informs why sometimes sponsorship fees may differ.

African Hearts Junior School in Ssenge
The African hearts Junior school was established to serve former street children who have been rehabilitated from the transitional home, Orphans and other vulnerable children and the entire community. Holistic education with an eternal perspective, ministering to children through the word of God.

Sponsorship's are available to orphans, former street children and other vulnerable children.
Day Scholars: $35 a month.
Boarding Student: $50 a month.

Former street children, will mostly join boarding section and pay the normal school sponsorship fees which is $50 a month but there are additional costs that might require the sponsor to add or we find more than one sponsor for such children. (We treat each street child as a this child). There is so much social work involved with former street children all of which come with a cost.

Children are provided with uniform once a year. Days scholars, breakfast and Lunch, Boarders all meals they would have at home. Former street children take remedial classes to catch up with the lost time while on the streets. The school promotes excellence. The sponsors will receive letters and report cards from their sponsored children and also get to send them letters and pray for them plus coming and visiting them. We make it really personal.

The Royalle Band: This band was  originated in 2001 as the Mengo-Bakuli Boys Brigade Brass Band. The African Hearts leaders began this group with one donated trumpet and the vision to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and to help orphans and vulnerable boys in the community learn to play instruments. This small group has grown to over 60+ boys now in the Royalle Brass Band and performs all over Kampala and surrounding areas. All proceeds from performances go toward providing food, shelter, clothes, medicine and formal education to needy children.

Community Empowerment: There are many reasons why children run from their homes to the streets but the cutting across reason is poverty. This program is a preventive approach to reducing children on the streets, it involves training parents on parenting skills and empowering them economically so that they can take good care of their children. It also involves providing a financial push to families willing to live with their children but lack the resources to take care of them.

The African Hearts Youth Micro-loans: Unemployment is over 70% of the youths are unemployed. Our youths face this reality. They do not have collateral security to borrow from Banks and so it becomes a cycle of hopelessness and there fore African hearts came up with a scheme to help young people graduating form dependency on the ministry. They have loans available to start business.

Kermima Empowerment Church and Village
KYERIMA EMPOWERMENT CHURCH: This was started after seeing the over whelming need in this community, where AH had bought land for just sustainability but God stirred their hearts to do something to this community and so they preached the gospel as they believe Jesus is the ultimate answer to everything. People gave their lives to Christ and a church was started and now people are being discipled, PRAISE the Lord.  How ever due to the lack of schools, Health facility, clean water etc, The community requested to use the church shelter as a school for their children and hence the African hearts Junior school Kyerima. Plans are under way to have better structures for all these.
