"Loaves of Love" ~ Adoption, the Heart of GodOn February 14, 2014, a group of young ladies from the Pacific Beach Church in San Diego gathered together for an evening of baking loaves of pumpkin bread for a special cause: Adoption. I had no idea what to expect. Doubts & fears were flooding my mind, like "Is this going to be a night of just goofing around?" and "Are they even going to be interested in hearing about orphans?" or "Do young girls even have the capacity to take this seriously?" In hindsight I see now that it was textbook warfare - the enemy attempting to get a foothold in my mind and kill the evening before the first loaf was even baked. Instead, what happened this evening was an amazing symphony - the likes of which only the Spirit of God could have orchestrated. And yes, I feel guilty for ever having entertained such faithless thoughts about this group of such amazingly mature, and completely attentive young girls. By God's grace, Hearts were touched, lives were changed, and the gospel came alive in a fresh way for these little ones that Friday night. I showed a few pictures, and shared a few stories and the Lord did the rest. Yes, it was written all over their faces - right then and there there hearts were arrested and moved regarding the plight of the orphan. The girls could not have listened more intently. The room could not have been more quiet. Their eyes could not have been more transfixed, hanging on every word, and occasionally filling with tears. Hands raised, questions asked again and again indicated a thirst to understand more about this country called Uganda - half a world away. The Spirit of the Lord was upon us. The more and more I walk the path of this ministry the Lord has created, I am starting to see that this sweet little bread-baking-orphan-loving ministry is not so much to minister to the children of Uganda as that the soul purpose of Bread for Life Ministries is ALSO to change the hearts and lives of us here in America. Continuing with the sweetest, most tenderhearted girls of Pacific Beach Bible Church. Thank you for everyone who prayed for this night. The goal of this night was to bake bread and raise money for the Adoption of a sweet 17 year old orphaned Ugandan teenager to have a forever mommy by her 18th birthday. We sold the "Loaves of Love" at church on Sunday morning. I offered the opportunity for the girls to get up and share something with the church body regarding Friday night. To my surprise, every girl wanted to share(!) They stood before the church and told of something special they had learned. They read Scripture and expressed how they have become more thankful for all that they have. I felt like a proud mom seeing my children make a transition from a 'respectful hearer' to a 'diligent doer' of the Word. The day was profound. The weekend was perfect. Jesus loves the orphan and blesses those who are obedient to care for them. And my most favorite part of the whole weekend was when one of the girls came up to me after church and said, "Can we bake again this weekend?" Oh Jesus... out of the mouth babes.
