"Loaves of Love" ~ Adoption, the Heart of God

On February 14, 2014, a group of young ladies from the Pacific Beach Church in San Diego gathered together for an evening of baking loaves of pumpkin bread for a special cause: Adoption.

I had no idea what to expect.  Doubts & fears were flooding my mind, like "Is this going to be a night of just goofing around?" and "Are they even going to be interested in hearing about orphans?" or "Do young girls even have the capacity to take this seriously?" In hindsight I see now that it was textbook warfare - the enemy attempting to get a foothold in my mind and kill the evening before the first loaf was even baked.

Instead, what happened this evening was an amazing symphony - the likes of which only the Spirit of God could have orchestrated. And yes, I feel guilty for ever having entertained such faithless thoughts about this group of such amazingly mature, and completely attentive young girls.

By God's grace, Hearts were touched, lives were changed, and the gospel came alive in a fresh way for these little ones that Friday night.

I showed a few pictures, and shared a few stories and the Lord did the rest. Yes, it was written all over their faces - right then and there there hearts were arrested and moved regarding the plight of the orphan.

The girls could not have listened more intently. The room could not have been more quiet. Their eyes could not have been more transfixed, hanging on every word, and occasionally filling with tears. Hands raised, questions asked again and again indicated a thirst to understand more about this country called Uganda -  half a world away. The Spirit of the Lord was upon us.

The more and more I walk the path of this ministry the Lord has created, I am starting to see that this sweet little bread-baking-orphan-loving ministry is not so much to minister to the children of Uganda as that the soul purpose of Bread for Life Ministries is ALSO to change the hearts and lives of us here in America. Continuing with the sweetest, most tenderhearted girls of Pacific Beach Bible Church.

Thank you for everyone who prayed for this night.

The goal of this night was to bake bread and raise money for the  Adoption of a sweet 17 year old orphaned Ugandan teenager to have a forever mommy by her 18th birthday.

We sold the "Loaves of Love" at church on Sunday morning. I offered the opportunity for the girls to get up and share something with the church body regarding Friday night. To my surprise, every girl wanted to share(!)

They stood before the church and told of something special they had learned. They read  Scripture and expressed how they have become more thankful for all that they have.

I felt like a proud mom seeing my children make a transition from a 'respectful hearer'  to a 'diligent doer' of the Word. The day was profound. The weekend was perfect. Jesus loves the orphan and blesses those who are obedient to care for them.

And my most favorite part of the whole weekend was when one of the girls came up to me after church and said, "Can we bake again this weekend?"

Oh Jesus... out of the mouth babes.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress
and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27

"Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older,
they will not leave it." Proverbs 22:6

Here are some pictures of our night together.

I am thrilled to announce, that for the months of November and December of 2013, Bread For Life Ministries was able to bake, sell and raise enough money to support two different ministries in Uganda: The House of Praise and The Children in Distress Agency. From bread sales alone, we sent off a total of $5,200! Between both ministries, this money will be used to:

Children In Distress
- Feed over 200+ orphans and vulnerable children everyday.
- Provide emergency medical care.
- Purchase 4 pieces of playground equipment, desks and chairs for the teachers, and build a sandbox for the children.
- Provide 5 "Staff Appreciation" days and lunches
- Extend our counseling services
-Share the Gospel, provide love, hope and salvation to families and individuals who are hurting and who had been without hope.
- Assist 8 widows with income generating activities
- Assist 6 children with placement in the newly established Foster Care Program
- Renovate a classroom for Primary 1

House of Praise:
- Provide food for 35+ children daily
- Purchase new school uniforms and shoes for 35+ children

Without YOUR love and support for this little orphan-loving-bread-baking-ministry, these things would not be possible. So THANK YOU to everyone from Petaluma, CA and San Diego, CA who purchased a delicious loaf of bread and made this happen!

Together, WE DO make a difference.

"Helping a child, one loaf at a time!" ~ Thank you!

On November 24th, Bread for Life Ministries had two tables set up, one in Northern California and one in Southern California. Between these two table, a total of $1,927 was raised for the precious children of Uganda. All from a simple loaf of bread. Praise God! This money will be used to purchase rice, provide shoes, school uniforms, and also bless the staff and children with a gift for Christmas and many many other things. All of these things could not be possible without your love and support of this little-bread-baking-orphan-loving-ministry. So THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who purchased a loaf of bread and thank you to everyone who prayed over this ministry at some point. I always say, "Together, we CAN make a difference" and it's really true!  Praising Jesus every step of the way!
